Head On hits the stage

While Priscilla introduced Australian mainstream audiences to drag, it was arguably the 1998 film Head On starring Alex Dimitriades that put gay sex into the consciousness. Adapted from the original novel Loaded by Christos Tsiolkas, the story has now being turned into a play, with the original title. “Honest, raw and passionate – a lot can happen in a sweaty night at The Peel,” says the promo, in reference to Melbourne’s infamous Collingwood gay bar. “Loaded paints a portrait of a young man who is restlessly searching for himself in opposing worlds. To this day, the story resonates with migrant and queer communities as a reminder that you are not alone.” Loaded Beckett Theatre (at the Malthouse Theatre), Melbourne, from 5 – 28 May 2023. https://malthousetheatre.com.au
