Blue is a new single by Jason Sweeney, a queer artist and musician from Australia.
Blue is about alternative masculinity and a homage to one of my favourite queer artists and filmmakers, Derek Jarman, whose final film from 1993 shares the same name. An entirely blue screen for 80 minutes, at a point when Derek’s vision had been partially lost after years of living with AIDS. Blue – and the album Homophonia that will follow later in 2026 – asks the listener to make space for those forgotten, those silenced and those, too, who thrive in the face of struggle. Blue is its own reflection on the numerous shades of gay love, longing and life. You can check out the video here.
