Meridian invites LGBTIQ+ community members, especially our rainbow elders and their allies, to join them for an afternoon dance on 18 April at Ainslie Arts Centre.

This free all-ages event invites Canberrans to move their body, share stories and connect with others in a relaxed and uplifting environment.
“The event will bring together the classic traditions of tea dances with queer community culture, all wrapped in an atmosphere of fun music, great local performers and joyful connection,” said Meridian CEO Joshua Anlezark.
“It is part of Meridian’s broader commitment to celebrating our LGBTQ+ elders, reducing isolation and loneliness and fostering connections, respect and understanding.”
The event will be hosted by acclaimed artists All The Queens Men. Through its LGBTIQ+ Elders Dance Club project, All The Queens Men hosts welcoming, inclusive gatherings created especially for older members of our rainbow community (50+), along with friends, allies and carers.
“Expect great music spanning the decades, gentle guided dance moments and plenty of time to socialise with community members and allies across the generations over some light refreshments,” said Tristan Meecham, co-founder of All The Queens Men.
“This event is for everyone, whether you’re a lifelong dancer or just keen to tap your foot and enjoy the atmosphere. There’s no pressure, no expectations, just a room full of warmth, laughter and community spirit.”
“Bring along any LGBTIQ+ elders in your lives who may benefit from engaging with their community, and find out more about our Aged Care Volunteer Visiting program to continue the community connection after the dance.,” Mr Anlezark said.
Come solo or bring a friend. Dress up if you like. Dance how you feel.
All bodies. All identities. All welcome.

About Meridian and its Healthy ageing programs
Meridian is Canberra’s largest HIV and LGBTQ+ community-controlled organisation. Our vision is of a future where our communities thrive: healthy and well, free from stigma, empowered by peer connection and supported by a just and inclusive society.
We have been providing inclusive support, advocacy and referral services to older people in the ACT region for over 40 years.
We celebrate our LGBTQ+ elders and are committed to addressing the needs of older LGBTQ+ people, who face unique challenges, barriers and vulnerabilities.
Our Healthy ageing programs support older people to navigate the aged care system and connect with other services in the community, with the goal of providing a safe and respectful space where older people can access the care and support they deserve to live their best life. These programs focus on reducing isolation and loneliness, and fostering connections, respect and understanding.
