Canberra-born actor Liv Hewson, star of the Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet and Showtime’s Yellowjackets, has donated $100,000 to the Canberra Youth Theatre (CYT). The non-binary actor said the organisation helped to launch their career and that they hope that more LGBTQ+ youth would also pursue their dreams of getting into acting. “I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in now without what I learned at (CYT),” Hewson told ABC Queer. “We use the term ‘emerging artists’ a lot – artists emerge from where they’re trained, and they emerge by making art. That training and those opportunities need to be available,” they said. The youth theatre company was forced to suspend its 2025 artistic program due to financial pressures but Hewson’s incredible donation will allow it to tour its latest show, But This Time Like You Mean It, to Sydney’s Australian Theatre for Young People.
