Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is calling on volunteers to be part of the team that delivers one of the world’s most iconic LGBTQIA+ festivals.
Returning from 13 February to 1 March 2026, the Festival depends on the dedication of over 2,000 volunteers to help create a safe, joyful and unforgettable experience for hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators.
From supporting the Parade on Oxford Street to assisting at Fair Day in Victoria Park, volunteers are vital to the success of the Festival. Roles span event operations, logistics, customer service, merchandise, medical first aid, and more.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Interim CEO, Jesse Matheson, said, “Volunteers are the lifeblood of Mardi Gras. For decades, they’ve welcomed visitors, supported our events, and helped bring our community together in ways that are safe, inclusive and unforgettable. By signing up, you’re not only making the Festival possible, you’re joining a vibrant team and becoming part of a legacy that stretches back almost half a century.”
Volunteering at Mardi Gras is also an opportunity to gain valuable experience, build skills, and form lifelong friendships. Many volunteers return year after year, with some proudly contributing for more than three decades.
