Pride History Group is collecting stories from people who raised a family in the Inner West in the 1970s, 80s or 90s. They are recording oral histories for a Council‑supported project documenting the rich history of queer families in our area.
Through a series of oral history interviews and historical research, the project celebrates the courage and past struggles of LGBTIQ+ people who created their own families against a backdrop of stigma and systemic discrimination. The project has a particular focus on lesbian-headed families but will include the experiences of a wide variety of rainbow families. The project will also include the experiences of allies, donors and children. The outcome will be a published booklet.
