Fresh Out is a fresh vision of Fair Day, Canberra’s largest LGBTIQA+ community event. A collaboration between SpringOUT and Meridian ACT, Fresh Out is welcoming back the local community and visitors to Canberra as it kicks off the annual SpringOUT Festival. This is a free one-day outdoor event in Glebe Park filled with entertainment from Australia’s finest performing artists, a village of market stalls representing our diverse community organisations and local businesses, plus it is showcasing Canberra’s finest food and wines.

There’s non-stop entertainment on the mainstage called Capitaltainment, with performances from award winning artists including the ARIA nominated, kindie band Tipitoe Giants, Triple J artist Ethan, award winning first nations vocalist Garret Lyon, singer and songwriter and Mardi Gras favourite Ellen Reed and Canberra’s own punk rock band Glitoris. As well as Radio and TV Hosts, DJ’s, dog parades, Dykes on Bikes, Qwire, and your local CBR Drag Artists showing unity in the inaugural mega production of Drag-O-rama!

This event will be filled with Canberra’s finest food and wines produced within the region as Contentious Character celebrate in Dinefinery, this cool climate winery set in the hills of Wamboin and will be selling a variety of beverages from tingling non-alcohols to their new range of wine cocktails, complimented by delicious hampers you can now pre-order from the Fresh Out website and collect at the event. Also, an array of food options for all ages from pizza, wraps, noodles and coffee. One of the biggest drawcards to Fresh Out are the markets with over sixty stalls, an abundance of diverse artisan, community, and business-related stalls celebrating queer Canberra, secure your stall holder application via the Fresh Out website.

Fresh Out aims to a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ attendees to affirm and celebrate their pride. The event also aims to recognise the contributions that LGBTQIA+ individuals and groups make to the cultural fabric of the Canberra region and beyond. Fresh Out also provides a valuable opportunity for the region to showcase its inclusive and welcoming attitude to the broader tourism market. The first day of the SpringOUT festival also provides an important opportunity for the community to come together and reaffirm its sense of cohesion and support for all members, especially those who may have experienced a sense of disconnection during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fresh Out is more than an event, it is an educational, cultural, and creative space that encourages freedom of expression for people of all genders, sexualities and relationships.

So, pack your hat, water bottle, bring your picnic blanket, the dog, the family and bring your friends, wear your rainbow colours with pride come and celebrate the day that will one day become a destination for the wider LGBTIQA+ community of Australia at Fresh Out.
