The former Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg lost his seat of Kooyong to independent ‘teal’ Monique Ryan at the last election and the chair of Transgender Victoria, Rochelle Pattison, wants to be the one to win back the seat for the Libs and become the party’s first trans MP in the process. However, Pattison would have to see off Amelia Hamer, the Oxford-educated grandniece of former Victorian Liberal premier Sir Rupert ‘Dick’ Hamer who is considered to be the frontrunner to win preselection. A growth in the number of students moving to the electorate to attend Swinburne University means that Kooyong has skewed younger in recent years, potentially creating favourable conditions for Pattison.
